We may never know the power of kindness, it is capable of saving lives. I don't know any other detail about this report, but to lose one to anything is detrimental. We train to fight, yet many of us have had brothers and sisters fall, not in battle, we've seen a battlefield beyond the one we trained for. Enlisted, Non-Commissioned Officers, we have an epidemic that our demeanor, words, and courage will make a difference in when it comes to the loss of lives. That odd person out, you see them stand behind the formation because they can't do PT, you see a hand brace; you see someone senior to you utterly humiliate and disclose the private information of our brothers or sisters openly. Can you find the courage to find a kind word to say or even acknowledge our own with a smile and a nod of the head to let them know that you aren't aligned with the ideals of the humiliation. Most of my career, I was up, but I've been down, profiled, humiliated, excluded and ridiculed. Most of my career, I was subject to bullies, labeled as one who'd fail and faced labels placed on me to find the same characterizations now that I am in Civil Service. I always found a glimpse of light in those times from someone, a sister or brother. They acknowledge me by believing in me, they saved me. Stand for what's right and respectfully shun degradation to support those who've made mistakes, those who gave up and those who were victim to circumstance. Everyone can grow, everyone can change, especially when they know even one person believes they can. Those who acknowledge they've reached a limit, respect their decision. We all have limits and I've been there too.
I will honor this Soldier to know more detail and pay my respects. May we all begin to look at things differently. Can we look for the quiet ones and those that are labeled insignificant? They've been something more before their recent struggle, or they've never had a chance to develop or change. Our current epidemic of loss, we can affect a change by simply being the difference, having the courage to align ourselves with what's right and by remembering where we came from. My prayers extend to this Soldiers Family and I will honor our fallen.
