Fort Jackson to welcome civilians for a taste of basic training

FORT JACKSON, S.C. — The Army's largest basic training installation is inviting civilians to learn what happens when soldiers go through basic combat training.
Fort Jackson commander Brig. Gen. John Johnson says members of the public may take part in a daylong tour of his installation Aug. 4.
The tour will introduce them to drill sergeants, show them what happens during soldiers' first days in the military and teaches the basics of marksmanship with an M16 simulator.
Lunch is included at a cost of $5.55. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and is open to people 13 and older. Space is limited and reservations are required by July 29.

Interesting how they choose relaxin Jackson!! Hope they go right when it starts to cool down because those of us who went there for basic already know when it hits heat cat 5, it's time to find some shade and relax... Lol

SSG (Join to see), I can promise you, it wasn't relaxin Jackson when I went to BCT there between 11NOV69 and 16JAN70! I was in D-3-1 on Tank Hill and was 3rd Squad Leader of 1st Platoon. The barracks of 1st Platoon appears at the base of the black ink line on infamous Tank Hill. The long one story buildings to the left of and parallel to the barracks were company sized mess halls. Over the years I saw this type of activity a few times as civilians, government employees or Congressional staff members would visit training posts to get a sense for training from a trainee's perspective SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL
Hopefully every one of the "public" who desires to attend will be vetted. We know our enemies are doing their best to gain access to our bases to wreak death and destruction. Gathering intel is an initial step in that process.
