A little tension between the ruling class and the military is not a bad thing.

Personal opinion, not professional, but we are beginning to see the real Macron and how not "center" he will be. The NATO request for 2% of the GDP be devoted to Defense will get lost in the noise of maintaining EU budget restrictions overall. If de Villiers really wants to have an impact, he'll go into politics following retirement.
