Teachers soaking up their well-deserved summer breaks are already daydreaming about how they'll inspire their next class of students on a tough subject: climate change.
New Jersey is the first state to mandate all of its public schools, starting in kindergarten, to incorporate lessons about climate change into the curriculum. The standards first went into effect last fall.
Here & Now's Peter O'Dowd speaks with two teachers about their approaches to climate change education: Mariah Besas, a 4th-grade special education teacher at Bartle Elementary School in Highland Park, New Jersey, and Kyle Seiverd, a science teacher at Grunin Performing Arts Academy, a vocational school in Ocean County, New Jersey.

Starting early on this topic is a good idea. For example, the books they read came from cutting a forest down. Without the trees, the ecosystem changed, There was no shade so it felt hotter. This example is simplistic but we can save the sophisticated lessons for later. There are sample ideas involving composting and recycling. PO1 William "Chip" Nagel

push the indoctrination on them when they are young. This is exactly why charter schools are so popular. They teach real science instead of indoctrinated science.

I'll kick the hornet's next.
I don't disagree there are environmental problems that need dramatic improvement.
I often wonder when and what it will come down to make all countries clean up their industry.
For example, are the ultra environmentalists willing to pick up a rifle and go to war with China over environmentalism. Actually, if things ever get to that point then all other world problems have probably been solved.
