Jefe, I am not into all the inter service rivalry, however, I have got to give to my brothers in the Corps they put the proper emphasis on shooting. I have said for many years shot placement rights many wrongs. To many people it is just a day at the range for a little qualification, we'l check the block. That all changes when the bullets start passing by. They wish they would have become a shooting ninja at that point. I am very fortunate in the fact all of my guys took lots of pride in being as solid shooter as possible in every possible condition. The time to learn is not when jackasses are trying to kill you

Don't see a question but a bit of personal history...I trained and qualified expert with Mi14 and took one with me on my first in nam with 1st Force Recon Jan 67...great weapon for range, knock down power, weather conditions, albeit it and ammo heavy..especially when compared with grease guns many earlier brothers had. Feb/Mar 67 began transition for us to the XM16E1 which seemed Mattel like but light, we could carry more magazines, and faster rate. This was entering the period known to many as the 'The Hill Fight' where in Spring of 67, Marines battled in the mountains by Khe Sahn where many casualties were found with jammed weapons. (long sad story of issues and condemnation corrected after Brothers paid the price). Also, three units were issued limited Stoner Weapons System 63A to test. Stoners utilized the same ammo as the M-16 and were superior. A light machine gun was part of the system which we primarily used 100 round linked in side mounted plastic container or an alternate 200 round tommy gun type drum. Awesome weapon!!! Stoners were tested until May/June 67 and turned in. All throughout this and my subsequent 2nd tour with 1st Force, M-14's remained a part of our weapons usage until I left in 71.....A brief ramble, R

All the Marines that I met cherished their M-14s, it was nice to have a round that didn't deflect when hitting a tree branch. Not only that, a good butt stroke from a M-14 would break heads, teeth, and send them to LaLa Land. At 500 yards, "Straight and True, it made you look like a, Hot Shot Guru."
