There was a conversation concerning the origins of Gangs in America and I said I would post something concerning the TV Series I watched. It is very informative and mind blowing at the same time to know we have such a thriving sub culture in our streets, prisons and even military.
I would recommend this series to those willing to educate themselves and others on this.

SGT (Join to see) I have watched these series many times. I do recall when I was last at Sheppard in 2000- the pipeline students were restricted from wearing bandannas of any color. The gangs had influence even in a military tech school- shocked me. They were utilizing the training received in the military back in the streets. Free training....

Yes, infiltrating the Guard and Reserve. I knew of Hispanics that waved gang signs back when they, the Army National Guard, had a total lockdown of Los Angeles south Central and the gangs could not do their drug trade and they were mad but the Latino Soldiers just gave them the gang signs back but they were with their M-16s and 9mms (The unit I am describing were MPs) and the local homies could not gangbang at all while the ARNG was in the hood.

I am familiar about gangs being Hispanic but looking white.
I also am shocked to see it here in Alberta, Canada. My wife is native (Indian/First Nations) and the native culture has the same broken home mentality as many ethnic groups that are marginalized lacking of father in the home lack of sobriety in the home. Drinking mothers set themselves up and the future generations for failure by having kids with, fetal alcohol syndrome.
So this kids grow up, not smart by FAS (Fetal Alcohol syndrome) they deal racism from White Canadians and their down kind (My wife is called an "Apple" since she is 'red on the outside and white on the inside' because she married a white guy and won't party or smoke pot, lend money or give their broke ass rides to the store to buy smokes and alcohol with their welfare money). Isolation to this sub culture and access to Media like MTV and the hiphop culture makes these gang type of regular common even in Canada. Native Canadians some of them drive low riders they do drive-by shootings that use the n-word they call each other the N word and the b word Raven trap and they even do the same teardrop tattoos and yang tattoos that Hispanics such as MS-13 and others use in prison prison here they say that natives who make up 4% of the population make up 30% of prison population kind of emulates what happens in the United States and other countries just my 2 cents cents it is so rampant here the natives over here in Canada I feel as if there Mexican or Hispanic but they're not but they watch MTV the rapper all the Tupac they name their kids and other famous hip hop names and they kill each other left and right due to drugs alcohol. I think not getting enough hugs as a kid and having a broken home and a father who spread his seed everywhere but doesn't stay home is the common denominator.
Look at this video and see how much hip-hop and urb styles influence Native Canadians that resemble Mexican/Latino Gang style and culture.

LTC (Join to see) - Sir, no matter how we are raised or how we raise our children.............. we/they all become who we/they want to be I guess......... growing up I had the chance to be a probably good and well paid drug dealer when I am from in NY, BUT because of my own fears of becoming a statistic (mainly going to jail), my parents and other family, friends and such, I did not. Other factors contributed as well, but I have watched some family go down that road and it does break my heart that I have a cousin in jail because of drugs for as long as I have been in the military out of the military and back in still. I cannot feel your pain ( I cringe sometimes as I watch my own children in this world), but hope yours will come around and see the light so to speak. This world is not getting any easier to navigate to say the least.

Surprisingly, some of the gangs actually started out as clubs to protect each other financially, economically, etc before morphing into what they are now...... like I said interesting and if you have some hours to spare, I would highly recommend watching.

SGT (Join to see) - We have hope for my 9 and 5 year old daughterswho do have a Father (their father blew them off and recently raped the 18 year old but she waited 2 months to report it and the RCMP only have him a person of interest). You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Part of it is genetic and the other is learned by culture. I heard on NPR that drinking for the first time at 15 vs 21 gives teens a 400% chance of being alcoholics. Last night, I found out Donald Trumps brother died of alcoholism at 42. Trump does not drink or smoke. He knows he could be like his brother. Anyways, loneliness, no father, boredom, aliienation, gangs and addictions are hand-in-hand.

SGT (Join to see) - I will watch it. I hate gangs in general. My wife has put the drugs, FAS and addictions into context that many are brain damaged by their parents drinking or doing drugs when in the womb. Its a vicious cycle.
