What I see here is General Kelly offering some perspective and truth from a subject matter expert. The President called the NOKs to offer condolences to the families of the Soldiers that lost their lives. He does not need to be prior military to do that or for it to be the right thing to do. You are not disqualified from offering condolences and support simply because you have not served, that is simply false and fallacious. This lady eavesdropped on these conversations and attempted to demonize the presidents sincere efforts to offer those condolences. The fact that she eavesdropped is disgusting enough but to try to politicize and demonize him for it is the worst cut of all. Now if General Kellys statements and subject matter expert perspective undermined Rep Wilson's position its probably because she was wrong to begin with. If she was right and just in her behavior then the truth would prop her up. Either way the truth is going to undermine one side or the other when someone engages in an adversarial attack like this lady is doing. She just happened to come up on the short end. And remember, the President consulted extensively with his military staff before deciding how to proceed. She made no such effort and nothing she did here suggests to me that she has any respect for the military to begin with.

1SG Frank Rocha - yes, in the sense that he clearly used the term listened in in a way that implies that she was eavesdropping on a conversation unbeknownst to the widow, which is absolutely false. And now Trump tweeted that she "secretly" listened to it. That's a flat out lie. The widow gets to decide who she thinks is appropriate to listen to the call with her, not John Kelly. She doesn't have to seek Trump's or Kelly's permission to have other people listen to the call. It's supposed to be about what makes HER the most comfortable, not Trump. And there is no single right way to do it. Kelly isn't really such a great representative to use on how to receive these calls. Obviously a hardened marine with over 30 years in the military and years of combat experience may process that terrible call differently than a young wife with two young children and a third on the way. So the "what he signed up for" comment may resonate one way with Kelly and a very different way with the widow.

LTC (Join to see) - none of us have any way of knowing whether any of what General Kelly or President Trump stated or said was a lie. If you're getting your "perspective" from the liberal medias spin on it then that would tell me everything I need to know on how credible your sources are. I choose to give the President and his staff the benefit of the doubt seeing as how his intentions were just, sincere, and heartfelt. If a grieving widow lashes out in anger, regardless of what is said, then you accept that because its one of the risks that comes with it. As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.

1SG Frank Rocha - the widow, the widow's mom and the congresswoman all have stated that the call was on the speakerphone. They were in a car at the time of the call. Are you saying you don't believe that? There is no spin involved in reporting a fact. OTOH, how could you possibly know what the president's intentions were? Did you talk to him? If they were so heartfelt as you suggest, why did he take almost two weeks to even publicly acknowledge that the ambush happened, and did so only when asked by the press? TRump's habit of habitual lying hardly establishes a record that warrants giving him the benefit of the doubt. Hell, Trump still maintains that the congresswoman is lying about what Trump said, even after Kelly confirmed that he said it. And now the video has surfaced of the congresswoman speaking at the building dedication, and Kelly absolutely lied about it. She made no claim to have been responsible for funding the building as it was funded before she took office. If the chief of staff of the president of the US is going to go on national TV and call a member of congress an empty barrel that makes the most noise, then he better know WTF he is talking about. But he didn't.

I found it very strange that Kelly lowered himself to calling the congresswoman "an empty barrel" and bringing up a story that had nothing to do with this issue to insult her. Now it turns out he was completely wrong about that. I guess working for Trump is rubbing off, as he now attacks people with factually incorrect stories. SAD!

Again, note how Kelly is factchecked but Wilson's claim that she looked up "empty barrel" and it read as "racist" was not.

Still waiting for that one too. “Empty Barrel“ seems more like an insult related to intelligence rather than race. Not that it was professional.

Everyone is a racist if your on the opposite side of ANY LIBERAL arguement. Deprecation of the term is what LIBERALS want more than anything along with a return to the Old South..........it's their ultimate motive there in over using the term.

The embedded video has been updated.

General Kelly, given the fog of events and years, erred in his memory when it came to "funding" for versus "naming" of the FBI Building but the video clearly shows Congresswoman Wilson bragging how she got into "attack mode" during what was supposed to be a solemn ceremony.
