SAL Radio was at the National Maritime Historical Society in Peekskill, NY this week to attend a talk by USAF Vietnam era veteran, scholar, professor George C. Daughan. A regular on our WVOX radio show, we met George when he received the Samuel Morrison Award from the Naval Order for his first book "If By Sea, the Forging of the American Navy from the Revoultion to the War of 1812". His newest book, "Revolution on the Hudson" discussed what he describes as the flawed British strategy of trying to win the war by sending armies from New York City and Canada to meet in Albany, cutting the colonies in two. He describes the lack of local support for the British and challenge of fighting a war thousands of miles from home. We had a chance to talk about the importance of West Point in the conflict and the famous "Chain" the early Americans stretched across the Hudson to block British ships.
