SSG Mike Foster I am thankful that USMC veteran Stewart Perry and his wife were treated well by American Airlines on their somber flights to meet the remains of their son killed in Bagram, Afghanistan US Army SGT John Perry. I am glad that even though he and his wife were booed and hissed by some passengers the crew and some passengers honored them. It is to his credit that Stewart Perry has no ill feelings about those who booed and hissed as he and his wife got off the plane first.
Yes some passengers booed and hissed the Perry's. As a soldier I was prepared for decades to defend the rights of those who disagreed with my views as well as those who shared them.

There are more than a few postings regarding this incident, but the article linked to this one is without a doubt the worst example of reporting so bad as to be almost total fiction.
The worst part of this article is contained in one paragraph in the middle of it.
"But Perry’s flight home to California wasn’t free of political controversy. The plane carrying Perry’s body was delayed as they loaded his coffin into the cargo hold. When the pilot announced the delay, and the reason for it, passengers in the first class cabin booed."
That paragraph is TOTAL FICTION. That didn't happen.
The incident happened as the Perry family was flying from their home in Sacramento, CA to Dover AFB, DE to meet their Fallen Warrior's casket. When the incident alluded to in this article occurred,
his remains were en route from the Middle East to Dover, not being loaded into the aircraft they were on.
It can be said that we, as a Country, are involved in a war of conflicting values, offenses, and being offended. Some of them real, some of them imagined. As with any war, though, one of the first casualties is the truth. The linked article is a glaring example of that.

It's true, to a certain extent, we are getting a lower standard of reporting than, say, the 40s, 50s, or 60s. But another factor that affects that is that we, the 'consumers', are accepting that lower standard, mostly, withoiut question. Take this story, for example...
I've already related how, when I heard it the first time, I didn't believe it. It didn't pass my smell test. It took some time and effort on my part but I at least got closer to the truth than 99% of everyone else who willingly took it at face value. And who also willingly, some even eagerly, believed harsh and critical lies about people they know nothing about. (Side question: of those First Class passengers who, as a group, have been slandered, villified, condemned..., how many of them are also Veterans or relatives of Vets who would never do what's been described, nor would they tolerate it IF it had happened in their presence? In short, it's highly probable, if not a certainty, that there were other Vets or family of Vets present. Since they didn't react in a way you'd expect them to react if "a Gold Star Family got boo'd", then the odds are more that the story being told isn't true.)
The point of that is that so long as we accept sub-standard reporting, and believe things that are unbelievable, that's what we'll continue to get.
Another factor for another time: the proliferation of 24 hr. news channels. There's only so much news that happens every day. All the networks are are competing for the same audience with the same news, so they have to package it in a way that will attract the most viewers. And objectivity and accuracy suffer as a consequence.

As I stated earlier regarding this post this shows how little respect some people have for our "Fallen" and how little respect people have for themselves. Another example is the flight attendant on Frontier (I think) had a "Black Lives Matter, White supremacy kills" pin on her uniform; when a passenger said "All Lives Matter" the flight attendant took offence and eventually had the passenger removed from the flight.
