"On August 12, 1968, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham played together for the first time when they rehearsed at a studio in Gerrard Street in London's West End. The first song they played was a version of 'The Train Kept A-Rollin.' They also played 'Smokestack Lightning' and a version of 'I'm Confused' (soon to become 'Dazed And Confused'). The first live dates they played were as The Yardbirds, and it was not until the following month when they started to use the name Led Zeppelin." Here is a song from their first album.

Thank you for reminding us my friend SGT (Join to see) that Led Zeppelin renamed from the New Yardbirds played on August 12, 1968.
By the way the Yardbirds were an English rock band, formed in London in 1963. The band's core lineup featured vocalist and harmonica player Keith Relf, drummer Jim McCarty, rhythm guitarist/bassist Chris Dreja and bassist/producer Paul Samwell-Smith. Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page were guitarists with The Yardbirds at different times.
The Yardbirds broke up in 1968 leading Jimmy Page to form the "New Yardbirds" later re-christened Led Zeppelin.

Jimmy Page was the final lead guitarist of the Yardbirds when they disbanded in 1968 Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - He brought the member of what would be Led Zeppelin together and named that band New Yardbirds.
