When there were high ranking Democrats telling the American public they have to pass Obamacare to see what's in it (Nancy Peolsi for starters), that should've been your first clue that the law was a disaster and it continued to be one after it was signed into law. Premiums shot sky high during Obama's tenure but there's not mention of that in the article - which is a very opinionated piece. Taxes shot up due to the law but again, no mention of any of that in the article you posted. Unfortunately, not everyone will like what comes after Obamacare and we'll continue to be divided on how best to move forward. Personally, I don't want the federal government running a program like this. It gives them too much power and last time I checked, an insurance company was a business right? The government has no business telling a private company, or a publically traded one, how to run their business.

There are two areas in the preamble of the Declaration of Independence that I will draw your attention to. The first one is "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness". If insurance companies are allowed to re-invoke the use of pre-existing conditions to many of our citizens, that would deprive many citizens of "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness".
The second area is "and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." I look at health insurance as a protection mechanism that is meant to ensure the "Safety and Happiness" of my family. From what you're telling me, you would rather rely upon the health insurance companies to provide for you and your family, meaning their "Safety and Happiness". I don't trust health insurance companies, having had to appeal, argue, battle said health insurance companies in various situations. After all, they're in business to make money, regardless of how you might view them. Otherwise, why would they be in business?
I don't know about the "Happiness" aspect, as there are plenty of miserable people out there, but I do trust the government to provide for the "Safety" side of their responsibility. It may not be as efficient as I'd like, but it's better than delegating their responsibility to business.
