Sorry, this sounds too good for prison. We are paying too much for prisons if they are serving this good of food. (Us taxpayers!) Not sure I believe this.

I retired from that complex almost 8 years ago and the menus for all of the special holidays are planned months in advance. It’s used as a management tool to control the morale of the inmates. I’ve been in lockdowns where the whole prison population is restricted to their cells and all meals are handed out by the cellblock COs. That’s fun for about one shift and gets really old after three days. So if the inmate population is entertained with a celebration meal, I’m all for my brothers and sisters at the joint returning to their homes safely.

I agree with you. I'm at OTV F/S dept. I know what's what. I'm sure the Union official who spoke with media knows what's up too.

These menus and are planned out and paid for months in advance. I was a Federal Corrections Officer and I can tell you that their “steaks” are not the steaks that you get at restaurant or even the clearance freezer. This is just a sensational piece with everything taken out of context. I’m sorry that these COs might have lost vacation time it’s terrible I know but they explain to you in orientation that no matter what that prison keeps running business as usual.

Your correct. I know this first hand as well. I'd love for this media outlet talk with all prisons. They all do different things.
