Thanks Kim Bolen RN CCM ACM for posting the link to the Oversight committee hearings for the future of the Guantanamo Bay terrorist holding facilities.
The recidivism rate for the released/transferred terrorist prisoners is much to large and deadly. With 204 of the 676 transferred detainees either returning to the fight or suspected of returning to the fight by those that keep track, it is unconscionable to proceed on the current release track.
I hope that the Guantanamo Bay terrorist holding facilities will not be closed and in fact that those who were released and are subsequently caught again will be returned and kept forever or until they are executed.
PURPOSE of the Hearings:
"•To identify the detainees who remain in Guantanamo and evaluate the danger posed by the detainees who have returned to the battlefield.
•To assess the implications the closure of the facility would have on the United States’ national security interests.
BACKGROUND:
•Almost 800 terrorist detainees have been held at Guantanamo Bay since January 2002. Currently, 80 individuals remain detained in Guantanamo.
•President Obama inherited a population of mostly high-risk detainees when he took office, and has transferred 144 of those detainees.
•President Obama delivered a plan to Congress to close Guantanamo Bay that entailed transferring most of the remaining detainees to other countries with others transferred to an undetermined facility in the United States.
•The Director of National Intelligence published a report detailing that 118 of the 676 detainees transferred returned to battle, and another 86 are suspected of having returned to'
