It's not sad, it's great! The Sherrif has decided that his agency will not play the part of a bureaucracy during a fearful time when people need the comfort of being able to defend themselves. That's a good thing.

On strictly Fiscal basis it makes no sense. Hows he going to pay for all those additional background checks? or are they going to wave those also or pay even less attention to detail in those background check defeating the purpose? Just Makes No Sense.

He didn't make this decision because he thought it would make fiscal sense. He did it so there would be less government interference with people trying to get carry permits. If you read the article, you know there was a sudden huge increase in demand for permits. This is a government official responding to the people in an emotionally charged time.
Let the Sherrif worry about his own budget.
