Many military recruiting adds appeal to the same thing...a way to prove your masculinity or toughness. AR-15 style rifles account for less than 3% of all homicides, an average of 340 deaths per year. Auto deaths account for approx 38,000 deaths per year...over 100 TIMES as many as AR15s. And there is no constitutional right to keep and bear an automobile...yet this insanely large number of deaths is evidently not even newsworthy. Instead, let's concentrate on the one scary-looking gun.

Bravo! The Left will never intellectualize or use rationality to discuss any topic. Actual THREATS are how military planners prepare for the battlefield. If the military were planning an attack on gun violence they would first seek to ENFORCE gun laws on the books and then seek out, disarm and ARREST illegal gun owners, and severely PUNISH those who break the current gun laws. They would put CRIMINALS in jail and then keep them there.

I remain pessimistic that republicans will support reasonable parameters on military weapons for civilians. The majority of gun owners I know support restrictions.

The majority of gun owners I know do not support restrictions. If you want to know why there are are mass shooting incidents? Look no further than the Psychotropic drugs we have been giving our youth for ADD and ADHD.

What do you consider a "reasonable parameter?" An AR is far from being a military weapon; it's a sporting rifle used primarily for simple enjoyment/target shooting, competition and yes, even hunting; especially feral hots; coyotes, etc.
I don't know how many gun owners you know ... 10? 15? 20? If a msjority of those you know support restrictions, that can only be a small sampling. The sportsman's club I belong to, about half (300 or so) own AR's ... and NONE of the 600 supports any kind of restriction. Among them are ex-military, police, doctors, attorneys, etc.
I own 2 AR's and an AK47 and never once did they, as an inanimate object, assault anyone. Now, if I were mentally ill, or a criminal, *I* might misuse them or any of the other long guns and sidearms that I own. Since I'm neither mentally ill, or a criminal however, that's not even an issue. Because some nutcase gains access to an AR, of the MILLIONS owned, anti-gunners would restrict ... what? 999,000-plus lawful, peace loving other citizens?
There are, in fact, more homicides. FACTS:
FBI data from 2020 does show that more people died from injuries sustained from other people’s fists, feet and hands than from rifles.
FBI’s Crime Data explorer, which does show that of the 17,813 homicides reported in 2020, 662 of them were committed with "personal weapons" — which the site indeed describes as hands, fists, feet, etc. — and 455 homicides were committed with rifles.
FBI statistics show that handguns were used in most of the gun homicides, with 8,029.
Here is a "mainstream" media's article that, for once, is more truthfull about guns and crime:

The type of gun used in most US homicides is not an AR-15
Handguns are responsible for nearly two-thirds of the nation’s gun murders.
