Christian opposition to the Potter books has always amazed me. In a world where increasingly so many things are seen as relative, the Potter books strongly believe in ultimate good and ultimate evil, with the side one is on being determined by the conscious choices one makes. Further, the reason baby Harry survives the attack of the evil wizard is he benefited from the oldest, strongest magic of all- the protection conferred to one when innocent blood has been shed on their behalf. Those are both very Christian themes. There is a lot more, too, including being true to one's family and friends, standing up for what is right, not being swayed by the crowd, and much more.
There is no more magic in Potter than in Lord of the Rings, yet the Christian community embraces Tolkien's works. As a practicing Christian, I have never understood the antipathy to the Potter books.

Not one spell in that book series is real. Are people really that naive? This is an excellent collection of books and anything that will get kids (and many adults) to read is a plus in my thinking. And yes, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan!
