The federal and state governments are better prepared to respond and they have been but even with all that this storm is unprecedented and you can't fully prepare for a storm like this.

As I live in Houston, and am dealing with this... I have 2 neighbors that fled New Orleans to Houston from Katrina. They told me that it is night and day different as far as reporting, shelters, food, blankets, and other material issues. In Katrina, they were in the dark from their officials as to what they needed to do. Here we were told immediately, and evacs/shelters are being updated. If you look at the Army Corps of Engineer, I would say that we are facing the same thing. The flooding we are seeing now that the storm passed is from failing levees, much like NO. Really need to look at a better way to handle levees. I will say that Houston changed a couple of bayous here, and the one near us (we didn't get any flooding), is already well below the bank and flowing fast. Lastly, saw the sun today for the 1st time in over a week!

Yes the lessons were well learned and the proper groups were prepared for it. Just need to get in when water has receded to assess the damage caused.
