Interesting to hear the story from a Japanese-American who served in the 442nd and live to tell about it and who is 96 years old. For five more years they'll be nobody left alive from World War II. At least we have the thaad defense system up and running in South Korea, Guam and Alaska. Hopefully, we have a system up and running in Hawaii. Maybe we have an Aegis Cruiser on standby in Hawaii.

Margaret, before the first missile hits Hawaii or gets destroyed, our missile will be launched. It takes 25 minutes tops for the missile to reach its Target after being launched. If North Korea tries to shoot into the mainland us, half the trajectory will be over Canada but we have a missile defense battery in Alaska already.

I know its' scary SPC Margaret Higgins but we witness scary times every day. It would be peaceful in my mind if we were not living in times that dictate such measures but it has been demonstrated over and over again that "safety" is relative depending on who has a bad hair day or a fight with the spouse or whether terrorists are on vacation. For those of us who believe in GOD or those who have a spiritual belief deity they pray towards, I think we should include this in our private prayers.

I was born on the 28th of October 1962. On 27th of October the US and Russia made a deal where the US pulled missiles out of turkey in exchange for Russia pulling missiles out of Cuba period in the prior 2 weeks, the US had gone to redcon 2 and the president had put all US forces on alert. 82nd Airborne Division ready to go. I knew an employee at a business I used to work at that was with the 82nd at the time. There was a blockade around Cuba and Russian ships were coming to run that blockade with additional Russian missiles. So I would not be too worried. Three before I was born, people were buying food and panic like they would before a hurricane striking their City. People were building makeshift bomb shelters at their house. It was a crazy time and at the same time my parents were rehearsing driving to the hospital and getting familiar with the route at the same week that everybody was scared to death.
