Ok, that is great but I don’t understand how this makes him any different than the thousands of kids that get accepted to these schools. I was waiting for the hook, something that gave the reader that aha moment of wow he overcame that and was able to succeed. Was he in a gang and then left that life after six grade to overcome? Not to say he didn’t earn his acceptance because clearly he did. Are we patting him on the head because he is black? Should be be waiting for the dreamer or Hispanics version of this? If is because of being accepted to 20 schools then yes that is different because if your not using the common app the cost of each application can be about $75-100 each. So no not everyone can afford to apply to so many schools. Good for him!

I think there were 3 things that stood out for me. 1) Hard work and perseverance pays off. 2) He got one B in his entire school career and 3) He went to Lamar HS here in Houston (granted this is local news for me and I know the reputation of the school).
