Thank you my friend COL Charles Williams for weighing in and posting this Task and Purpose article. I expect many special operators would agree that regulation haircuts don't necessarily help service members in combat.
I had military haircuts from 1974 to 2008. After that point I let my hair grow out to donate ponytails to Locks of Love to make wigs for young cancer patients

Another note, I retired 1978 and am clean shaven and have regulation haircuts. A while back, I was in a waiting room and a middle aged fellow said you are former military, aren’t you? He was a Veteran Marine. When I asked him how he knew, he responded, appearance and the way you carry yourself. Pride runs deep.

Tell it to one of the best units in the military. As to the photos, the old saying, when you are up to your ass in alligators, it’s hard to remember your goal was to drain the swamp. Haircuts serve more than one purpose, one of those not being vanity.
