A number of years ago I had saving that I converted to a different plan. I told the advisor it wasn't much and he told me at my age it was more than average. I was surprised. In 2008 when most took the hit on their 401k all I lost was a little less interest on my on my account. I waited until I had to take from my 401 and by then it had build up a nice total. But that military retirement sure came in and allowed me to do things a little different. It paid off. And it has lasted for almost 42 years. Guess that 67 per month basic pay is working out now.

Even if your behind the curve you can catch up if you know how to invest. It doesn't take that much spare time to learn.........yet so many people don't spend the time.

I use- to tell all my Soldiers that Compounded Interest is the 8th Wonder of the World. When you get payed, pay yourself first and then pay your bills.

Leaders can take this article and have a conversation with soldiers during counseling. Planning for retirement should happen now and never tomorrow. Avoid overconfidence "I'll be ok with military retirement"
