I think the Jan 6th events were horrid, embarassing and ILLEGAL. That said, and respectfully PO1 William "Chip" Nagel and LTC Eugene Chu, respectfully, I don't believe "insurection" is even remotely the issue, so much as a RIOT ... just as the events in Portland and Seattle for example. Each involved destruction and incursion of Federal Properties. If one event was "insurrection," then so too were the others.
NEITHER was anywhere near being a "peaceful protest," so all are either an insurrection, or a riot. Can't have it both ways.

SSG Bill McCoy The big difference in the two events that you specifically mention is that in the West Coast events there was not an attempt to stop a Constitutionally mandated function nor were there calls for executing Congressmen(women) and the sitting Vice President of the United States!!! If nothing else that definitely makes it an insurrection and all those that had anything to do with inciting it prior to it happening need to be prosecuted!

Definition of insurrection (Merriam-Webster): an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government.
Thus, both West Coast and D.C. events were/are contrary to Constitutionally protected functions; both involved federal property and assaults. As for calls to execute Congress members, I'd equate that to ignorant people at ball games who scream, "Kill the umpire," and not necessarily any ACTUAL attempt. Definitely idiotic rhetoric however.
Tim, your opinion isn't necessarily wrong ... but I'm simply saying the claim of insurrection applies to the Seattle/Portland events - all were RIOTS, or all were acts of INSURRECTION, expecially considering the loss of life & destruction of Federal properties on the West coast events, vs the D.C. event.
