I read where the Blackbird had so much expansion in its parts that when it took off it actually had fuel leaking out of the tanks until the aircraft got up to operating temps. The article also said that it took off with minimum fuel and refilled in the air after everything tightened up.
Question: does anyone know how fast this plane actually could fly? I've heard that it went around 2000 MPH but it had to go faster than that to break all the records ir set.

Yea, they had em at Kadena AB (Okinawa, Japan) when I was there TDY in 1989. Cool watching em take off.
