If I was still in, I wouldn't get my hopes up on seeing this happen. They've been talking about revamping the APFT for 20yrs and it hasn't changed, even though it should've. I could be wrong, but when my father was in, there were five or six events they had to do, and for the "New Army" I came in, we had three. So for the "NewER Army", we're going to bring in Crossfit to judge strength levels and performance? I like the idea of changing the APFT being it really doesn't gauge anything short of your run time, but to have it MOS based is wrong. You never really know when you could be called on to leave the wire, and to not be in the same condition as the person next to you mentally and physically is wrong. If I'm a 25B in a infantry unit, who's standard would I adhere to? It should be the 11B's but who knows?
Incorporate some of this with the current APFT and lets call it a day. Do away with the two mile run. Make it shorter or make it 19miles long and call it the Bergdal event. No one in the Army short of Bergdal has run two miles in a combat zone. Even he was caught.

"If I'm a 25B in a infantry unit, who's standard would I adhere to?" This has always been my argument against MOS specific standards. I was an 0231 (Intel analyst) at an Infantry BN. If we are going to score PFTs the way we do, you can end up with someone who has to far exceed their MOS standards to score correctly for promotion purposes.

I generally prefer the idea of MOS based APFTs, instead of gender. Scaled for age (obviously). Certain MOS' have certain fitness requirements and everyone hoping to serve in that capacity needs to be able to meet the same requirement, regardless of gender. Hopefully, that is the direction the Army is moving towards.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr because the duties of a 40 year old CSM or Colonel are not the same duties as the 22 year old PFC/1LT, even if they do have the same MOS.

PFC Jim Wheeler - The phystica requiremts when it hits the fan are almost Identical, and a 4O Year old ANG Infantryman and his 25 year old counterpart are the same. If you want to change the standards by rank that would be fine, You have to remember in the ANG there are 40 year old squad leaders and truck drivers.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr that is actually what came to mind after posting that. PT standards by rank is the best solution, I think.

That I can agree on . When I retired we had a E-4 in my unit only months younger that I was.
