Iran has been propping up the Assad regime in Syria by supporting Hezbollah and sending fighters. Iran will continue to support Assad because his regime a a part of their broader ideological model. Iran wants to avoid a Sunni dominated Syria. Iran desires to achieve Shia dominance in the middle east by; Infiltrating the security, political and military ranks of in this case Syria in order to control the political developments in Syria and to spread Iranian national, geopolitical, strategic, military, economic and ideological interests, irregular warfare, and ideological expansion.

Iran does not only defy and embarrass the United States in it's attempts to get what it wants and make things appear as they want them to appear in publicity. An example of other conflicts Iran has is that recently Russia and Saudi Arabia as well as other OPEC nations have met to develop a plan to drive up the price of oil by cutting production and causing a shortage of barrels of oil on the market. Iran is refusing to join them in this because they have only recently been able to have oil on the open market and are enjoying the benefits of these sales. It publicly chastised both Saudi Arabia and Russia for their insistence at moving ahead with this plan despite Iran's refusal to join them.
