Capt Daniel Goodman wow you wasn't kidding when you said you have more post to come. Here in Norfolk/Virginina Beach they have a school for Merchant Marines. The President depicts the mission statement.
Commander Alfred G. Ford, USMS, superintendent of Fort Trumbull, said recently in an interview:
"We take a real interest and pride in our men -- we want to see them get ahead and ship out as capable licensed officers where they are badly needed. These men that are here now will carry on the noble traditions of the United States Merchant Marine on every sea, delivering the goods to every front."

Merchant Marines. This has always confused me since I had to look up more on it. In my recent studies the Army makes us study more about the other sister services and that we work jointly.

During ww2 I don't think anything like Paul Hall existed for merchant marine equiv enlisted ranks I think those were mainly ojt incl engine!room oilers and wipers as they're still called now I believe. Look up also the naval armed force!of ww2 there's a Wikipedia page on it I think.
