Blackmail isn't the only thing the Scots invented -- and not even the most profitable. John Logie Baird invented the TV, Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone and I believe the first indoor flushing toilet was a Scottish invention (though that one might not be true).
Some Scot named Dunlop invented the pneumatic tire, and another Scot invented the stuff we call "tarmac"... the "mac" part comes from his name -- MacAdam -- the tar is self explanatory.
I've been living over here for 33 years now and there's a lot you can say about the Scots, but being uninventive isn't one of them.
