A lot of his fame and legend are due to his involvement in the plot to kill Hitler. Had he not been involved, he'd have been sent East to the Russian front and would more than likely have died in one of the attrition battles.

I've always thought Guderian was grossly under rated I comparison.

Guderian was the better of the two. Rommel was king when the enemy acted like his book said they would act. But once everyone figured out he was short on fuel, he was an easy kill.
