Thats a given, yet we also need to maintain the accountability which comes with understanding where we began and what it took to get to where we are today as well as the lessons learned from mistakes made along the way

It very well could be a factor but not the main factor. This is an interesting subject to study but there are too many PC minefields to negotiate. I think that is a primary reason some people completely steer clear of this issue for risk of receiving the pleasant responses from those that actually profit off of the chaos. A blind man can see the issue though.
