I've known a few holocaust survivors. Witnessed their broken bodies. We all have an obligation to repeat their stories.

As far as the protest, police cannot exist without civil immunity protection, except for proven criminal acts. Malpractice insurance would cost more than their salaries. Police forces would have to double or triple their ranks to cover the down time caused by harassing lawsuits.

In the mid 1960's, the creation of Medicaid incentivized the closure of mental health institutes where the mentally ill were institutionalized. I remember one such facility in central Indianapolis. Hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent on "social service agencies" to deal with chronic vagrancy, mental, and substance abuse. The problem has gotten worse. If one wants the police to stop being social workers and if one wants to deal with the problem, then support laws that will institutionalize those in need.

Yes, I agree. We had a man decapitate another man on a bus a decade ago. He was crazy and delusional. Thanks to bleeding heart sentencing he was treated and out in society now. In Canada, a 1st Degree Murder is only a 7-10 year term. No Death Penalty. A sane Canadian, who murdered 2 Montana Indians in 1983 is still on Death Row. In Canada, maybe 15 years will be the most time served and he is released.

Actually, I have read it was the introduction of Thorazine, the first anti-psychotic drug, approved in 1950, that started the decline of institutionalization. Now the truly psychotic could be made somewhat normal and tossed on the streets to fend for themselves. Tragic abuse of some of the most vulnerable adults in our society. And the civil rights movement insisted the mentally ill be freed as well. A perfect storm that few mentally ill with no support structures can withstand.

I totally disagree with you about this post. The protesters ware/are right, absolutely right. Police at every level of out government have been given a Carte Blanche to run amok because of the idiotic legal theory that gives them protection from prosecution. At the same time, the exact same governments that support this hair brained legal theory have taken every cent possible away from Social Service Agencies so there is no agency available to handle Social Service Emergencies that arise so the only way citizens have to stop Social problems is to call the police that have absolutely no training in delivering Social Service assistance. Just talk to the police sometime about how many of their calls are really Social Service related and have nothing to do with actual criminal actions. It has been estimated that more than 60% of every police shift is spent handling Social issues not criminal issues. So demonstrates that want to change the the deliberate government sponsored policies that have created this mess are nothing but supportable by any thinking person.

MAJ John Lavin -

I did not realize you are older than I am. You may nor may not realize that you may think it is all about Republicans, Neo-nazis and other fringe right calling the shots in today's news. Since you were commissioned in 1966, you probably did a tour or so of Vietnam and survived the Officer purge because you had a BA Degree and got out as a Major. I have a good friend that was commissioned a little after you, went to Ranger School and served in Vietnam in 1968-69 during the time that soldiers were getting wasted and morale was not good. With that being said, correct me if I am wrong on your background....

Some of the Actors in the background of Black Lives Matter is a Susan Rosenburg and although Snopes does no say so, I believe She is still part of the late 1968 Revolution stared around the time of the Chicago Democratic Convention, the Students For a Democratic Society and the Weather Underground. I see Susan Rosenburg and Angela Davis (who is friends with Ms. Garza one of the 3 founding members of Black Lives Matter) as a continuation of the 1960s radicals wanting to bring down the USA. BLM and Antifa or other loosely knit anarchists all working for the same cause because they feel ripped off by the election of 2016. I feel the election of 2016 was a fair and just vote. Yes, HRC won overall but the Electoral College made POTUS win. That is the way it has been since 1793.

I asked my retired friend, COL. John Cole, yesterday if its possible for radicals his age to still want to bring down the USA. His answer was certainly, yes! You may disagree with me on the left wing conspiracy of BLM.

You know what mission creep is. I am sure this was discussed in 1967 as well as today. BLM has been dealing with Mission Creep. Not just Justice for George Floyd and others murdered by COPs. It wants repirations for blacks, It wants the jails closed. It wants Police disbanded or cut back to non-mission capable levels. This continued civil disturbance the Major of Portland admitted to the rioters will only help POTUS Trump. I believe the Corona/Kovid was the pressure cooker to people with unemployment and George Floyd was the blasting cap of the satchel charge of frustration and the excuse to riot. That is my opinion. I know a cop leaving Seattle PD and the riots were true. He is leaving as well as the police chief. BLM and that mob uses Mafia tactics in Seattle to hound the Mayor and the Police Chief's house to harrass. The same thing in St. Louis. BLM is upset at Seattle PD because they are DEMANDING 400 Cops be let go. 100 have already quit. 100 will be let go and 30 of the 100 by December. BLM demands 400 but even 200 gone means that the city will be dangerous and more cops will leave to other counties. A Captain in my unit said this to me at 1 pm yesterday:

"I will be working for another Department starting in October. Yup, we were not expecting the Chief to retire. That says a lot about the council...seems more racist to me than not. Black Woman, first African American Police Chief in Seattle and Community Outreach...an example to the African American Community that they can make it..an example to young black Children and gets pushed out..they are going to cut 100 positions and 30 Officers will be laid off most likely" This came from a Hispanic Captain with 3 years on the SPD.

This city was the vanguard of hiring a Black female Police Chief and having a very multi-ethnic young officer cohort that will soon be laid off because the MAFIA BLM and the radical City council says so...

My belated Dad was a Deputy Sheriff and my Mother was a Social Worker. I am a Spanish-speaking Minority so please do not call me racist or a bigot because you do not know me. My Wife is Canadian Indian and she tells me about the racism happening to her in Canada every day. When She comes to the USA, they think she speaks Spanish when actually I do! My Mother came to the USA legally in 1959 with a Master's in Social Work doing studies in Puerto Rico, Chile and Argentina.

You may think this is all right wing. No, it has strong pressure from the Left in Seattle and Portland to make it bad. I will not shut up. I have the moral courage. I have my 20 year letter. I live in Canada and nobody knows where I work so the BLM brownshirts or others cannot Dox me or use Mafia tactics that BLM is using to Hispanics in New Orleans who do not hire 20% black or use 20% black suppliers like what has been happening to owners being bothered by BLM thugs wanting to re-imagine a new Mafia State.

Alicia Garza read all her books and Angela Davis is passing the Baton from the 1970s militancy.

I saw SDS when they were begging for money in at my Community College in 1981. I actually saw a video from them. I knew about Angela Davis in 1970 as a kid when she was found not guilty for her weapons being used to kidnap and later kill a judge.

I saw this 2002? PBS KQED documentary on the 60s radicals on a Canadian version of Netflix a week before George Floyd was murdered. When I saw these riots in Seattle, Chicago and Portland, I thought of this documentary. The talk of re-imagining is a buzzword for revolution. I saw the 'burn it down' talk from BLM leaders. BLM is very diversified. They do not have a standard SOP. Some are Police Reform, some are for anarchy and revolution. Everybody kisses ass for BLM but few believe that it is for violent overthrow of the USA.
