While in New York we lived in a small community with a great school system. When we moved to Los Angeles it was much different. The high school was about three times the size of the one in NY and the demographics was very different. My child wasn't challenged and said the teachers pleaded with the students to do well on state testing or they would lose accreditation. We pulled him out and started home schooling. While attending a home schooling group where he could meet other kids we found out about current enrollment. For those who don't know what that is you are the high school but your child attends a local community college. They get college credit but don't have to pay the costs because they are a high school student. In come cases a child can graduate high school and already have an associate degree. Three of my four children when that route. The hard part is they miss out on the high school connections such as sporting events, prom, homecoming, and such things. My oldest did get to go back to NY to attend prom and hang out with his friends.

Home school groups provide the socialization that the kids miss out on by not attending regular school. For my granddaughters, their dance school and dance teams fill the gap. I suspect that sports teams would do likewise
