This seems like the most trivial thing that Congress could vote to curtail as it relates to military spending and cost-cutting.

Although not directly correlated to military operations, why not quit giving away millions of dollars of equipment (including vehicles) to Iraq, Afghanistan and all the other nations we've helped out? I'll take the morale boost of a military band over providing full compliments of equipment-to many nations that won't take care of and/or will lose/sell the equipment-all day every day.

When I read things like they will hire civilian musicians to do jobs instead of using military musicians, it tells me how clueless these people are. That's like having a car repair covered under warranty but you decide to take it to an outside mechanic and pay them to fix it. WHY? So, basically, it will cost more money under this grand plan. No savings to taxpayers AT ALL. And a huge part of pride and connection that people feel towards their country will be lost when there are no more military bands. We are a morale booster to tired soldiers and a link to veteran's pasts. We are an excellent tool for international relations. Ask any General what he thinks about his band and he will puff up with pride. Messing with military bands is a big mistake that will cost the armed services in the long run.

I agree. This is petty and it will have an adverse affect on our military. If you look at it one-sided in the manner that a bunch of military members just sit around playing drums then yes you would see it as wasted money. However, there is a lot of military history and morale vested in the military bands. Next time the SECDEF attends a GCC Change of Command Ceremony he will feel bored without the nice music that brightens the ceremony. Maybe they prevent wasting more money by not allowing a Gun Salute either. Heck, while we are saving money lets sell the old guns to terrorists on the watch list. I thought our executive branch was in trouble, but I guess our Legislative Branch is going down too. We need this country's bright minds back in politics!
