History is great to study, but from what I understand, part of the reason it was called the Dark Ages was due to the Catholic church , where they eliminated whole towns and groups of people that disagreed with their doctrine.

The Cathars and Waldensians were some of the groups that the church attempted to wipe off the face of the earth. You should also look at the Northern crusades, they were against the people who resisted conversion to Christianity in the North of Europe. Christianity has a long and bloody history through the dark ages from the Crusades to the Inquisition.
Also Universities existed in India and China long before they arrived in Europe, the only difference was that they did not issue diplomas.
The notion that there was no science before the middle ages was also absurd... Aristotle, Epicurus were using inductive-deductive method hundreds of years before the dark ages. During the dark ages it was Arab and Persian scientists like Al-Biruni who led the advancement of science.

SSG (Join to see) - I have seen documentaries by the SDA on the Waldensians, the Church was not kind to people they classified as heretics.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - They were not kind to any potential competition be it other types of Christianity within Europe or other religions. They were every bit as bloody and evil as Daesh or ISIS. http://www.historyuncaged.com/european/baltic
When you think of the Crusades you would most likely assume the war fought between Christian and Muslim forces for control of the Holy Land, however the Northern Crusades were a different story altogether.

This guys talk is ridiculous and full of inaccuracies. Carnival was invented in the middle ages? Had this guy never heard of Saturnalia which was one of many carnival type celebrations among the Romans. Similar celebrations existed in cultures around the world. Drama does lose popularity around 100 BCE and was replaced by spectacle (circuses, chariot races, ect..). However it's not true that it disappeared, theaters were still being built in the Common Era and Drama was still an important part of European culture as poetry and legend were recited by Skalds in the North and plays were still being produced throughout Europe in Roman theaters.
As I said in another post, there was an innovation in the granting of Degrees/Diplomas by European Universities... however Universities had already existed for hundreds of years. The notion that there was no science until the dark ages is absurd as well. Yes, they did build some beautiful buildings. I started to believe that finally he knew what he was talking about... but then he talks about art and I am again sadly disappointed. The great innovation during the dark ages was that stories were finally put on paper, however it is absurd to think that there wasn't a rich history of legends and stories that had been passed on orally through the ages. Musical notation was also quite old, although there was an innovation with regard to the five line system we use today.
A tradition of local self government? What is a tribe if not local self government? They invented the free associations of men? How can you even think something like that?
If Ignorance is bliss, this Professor must be one of the most blissful people on earth. Seriously is Prager University fake like Trump University or is it supposed to be a real University?

I feel bad for your students, unless of course you were teaching a class on propaganda.
