This is from May 2015, but it still gives some perspective concerning America and its Wars.
How many Americans have died in U.S. wars?

Interesting SGT (Join to see). Since PBS relied on the VA for their statistics they undershot the number by a couple million Americans.
First I think they meant to say war-caused deaths since many people die every day from pother causes whether there is declared was or not.
Since they excluded the War with the Barbary Pirates which had a few deaths and they include no civilian deaths in the Revolutionary War, the Mexican American War, the Indian Wars, and they did not include the vast number of AMERICAN Indians who died in the Indian Wars they undershot by a wide number. They also didn't include the merchant ship and ocean liners crews and passengers killed by submarines before and during our involvement in WWI and WWII.
They exclude all undeclared black operation casualties for obvious reasons.
It wasn't until the Vietnam War that combat deaths began to become a higher percentage than illnesses in wartime for service members.
The combat death figures are limited to those killed in combat or who succumb to their wounds within a time frame.
They don't include those who die many years later from wounds or agent orange exposure for that matter.
While the total number of deaths in wars is known but to God, I expect the true number of Americans who died as a result of US Wars is closer to 5 million.
