I remember that, I lived in Cleveland at the time, I was about 6 years old. I also remember that shortly after that some people started calling Cleveland the "mistake on the lake" ) :

in the mid-1980s, I once rented a canoe from the U-Haul on Clark Ave in Cleveland. With the assistance of a good friend, we canoed down the Cuyahoga from Bath Twp. to the east bank of the Flats near the railroad bridge, right before whiskey island. I learned then why the Native Americans named it appropriately the "Crooked River" each of those turns was at least a mile or two and really made for a lenghty trip!
