When it came to branding, I found this helpful through all my business ventures......
When you wake up each morning, have these two goals in mind -
1- How can I enhance my company's brand?
2- How can I make my customer's experience more enjoyable?
You may not achieve those goals "each" day but the fact that you are constantly thinking about the process will enter into every one of your "daily" decisions and become a simple "litmus" test of making a good or bad decision.

Good morning,

Who you are, what you want and how you should go move forward are very important aspects of completing a goal. However, there is one very important topic missing in the above post. You must know the enemy. If you know the enemy and you know yourself, the opposition should lose every time.

In a business sense, the enemy is your competition. But, the concept listed in branding is from knowledge gained from war. If you take customers away from your competition, it may be viewed as an act of war. Also, do not engage the opposition until you have already won.

Now, that is a concept that might be tough to wrap your head around. I suspect it will be different for every business. Whatever it is you do, you will need to do it in a unique way to stand out. Otherwise, you are just like every one else.

Think about how you can help the customer better, faster, cheaper. Do you care about the customer? When you move your business out of rally point past the line of departure, have your business and yourself ready to fight to the death. But, you will have made yourself a sure win.

For active duty personnel, I am not sure you have the time to be developing your own business and branding. However, you can get everything ready. Business concept, business supplies like thank you cards that have your business name on them, an LLC cost time and money...

Take your time. Get to know your enemy. Learn wants makes them weak. Do not fight until you have already won. Read and listen to those you admire. For women, it doesn't just have to be women you look up to. But, there are some ladies in the business world that have made millions. Listen to their interviews. Motivate yourself.

You must never give up. My eyes watered a couple of times when I thought I should just quit. Depressed to a point of despair. But, real killers don't cry. You know, they just have a few drops of water in their eyes due to dust particles.

Sorry for the long winded post.

M. Morris, It is actually about personal branding "yourself." There is no business to brand, your brand becomes your resume. I was confused at first, too. What does "Jane Baldwin" brand mean. This is my brand well I prefer GI Jane - me not a company. I read recently that instead of a Cup of Joe it was called a Cup if Jane. Too funny.
