LTC Chad Storlie you make some great points in this article. This needs to go out to all service members at their first duty assignment. I think the hidden gem in the article is Tuition Assistance. Service Members need to go to their Education Center and sit down with an advisor and learn about all the options before committing their time, effort, and dollars in this worthy pursuit.

LTC Chad Storlie: I have wanted, in the past, to go to a college/university online. Thank you so very kindly for advising us ahead of time; how to evaluate the value of an online school and degree.

Online degrees have an advantage for being convenient and mobile. But where they fall short is not being connected to a campus and having all the amazing resources like the career centers and student organizations at your fingertips. And some of these for-profit schools are almost criminal. Always do your research on a school before you apply. The end goal should not be to get a piece of paper saying you can complete 4 years of school, the end goal should be to start a career.
