Sgt Wayne Wood why does there always have to be bad people out there? UGH! I have my wifi routed through a VPN just for this reason.

This is why corporate and government networks should be monitored. That is, human eyeballs watching patterns of behavior in the traffic accessing the network as well as the behavior of authorized users. No "system" can truly protect a network. When human monitors detect intrusion attempts they can respond to mount random defenses or even go on the offensive against potential intruders. Yes, it really is like war. It is cyber war. For home systems, just don't use the default settings built into your home router. You can't believe how many of those I see. I live in an apartment (in a complex of 500 units) and when I look to see the available wifi signals, I am amused at how many are named things like "Netgear" (or other router manufacturer names) and that's a telltale signal that the user just plugged it in and began using it without altering the default settings. I named mine "NSAVan###" just to keep the neighbors wondering...
