Some really good insight here. I recommend it highly. I also agree with the conclusion that America should compete by doing what it does best. Too often we see some short term success and attempt to emulate it. We forget that what works in China or Europe or anywhere else only works in those places because it takes advantage of the culture, economic, and environmental conditions in those places. What works best in America works because it takes advantage of the fundamental freedom of Americans to seek their own successes. America is the cumulative success of individual successes. That formula not only propelled America to the forefront of all other nations economically, militarily, and culturally, but also can sustain us at the forefront. Other nations, such as India and China have made tremendous strides by emulating US albeit imperfectly. If they truly emulated US, they'd roar by us so fast that... Well it reminds me of the story of the man who stepped out of his speeding car on the freeway. When the paramedics picked up his broken body they asked why he did it. He explained that another had passed him so quickly that he thought his car had stalled.
