The easiest way to sight in a new scope is to have it secured in a gun vice (I use the Caldwell Lead Sled) and fire 2-3 rounds at 25 yards without moving the rifle. Adjust the scope to the POI and you should be very close. Fire for effect and verify zero and adjust as needed. Then you can move to the 100 yard line and reverify zero, and go from there.

SPC Steve Irvine - You covered it well Steve. I laugh at folks who bore sight only and then try to go out to 100yds.
The scope bases that have MOA built into them are tapered to be thicker at the front so you don't run out of scope adjustments for long range (not sure but the bases I've seen had +20 MOA built in) shooting. I'm sure it varies by scope brand but you probably don't need that unless you are 700 or so yards or more.
