If we had continued with the development of some of the "Star Wars" programs we would have a robust ICBM killer capability. North Korea or any other rouge nation wouldn't pose that kind of threat. Probably some other goodies as well.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - Kinetic kill rods were hardly fiction. Not every program being tested would have paid off. There is no way to know what might have came out that would have been cutting edge. We may never know.

TSgt David L. - Kinetic kill rods are fantasy, even if you get past the treaties that we have signed forbidding us to put that kind of weapon in space. Do the math on how much weight would have to be diffed and relate that to the energy delivered. even with potential low cost lifters like the BFR the trade-offs make little sense. and that depends on a guidance system that can handle propled cold-soak storage then guild with great precision though reenter when external signals can not be used for guidance
