There was once in a time when women were only allowed to serve as in the Womens Army Corps also known as WAC. Women eventually transitioned from the WAC to traditional support MOSs previously held by the boys club. Perhaps all we need to do is review the positive and negative aspects of this integration, use what worked, adjust what failed, and move forward. This is not rocket science and the biggest issue will simply be the men in those units being held to the standards of the Services; basic respect and discipline. There will definitely be an adjustment period though it will be smooth if the leaders at all levels demand equal respect and swifts crack down on those discrediting the Service.

Thanks for your great response SFC Benjamin Harrison. There were other women who served in combat capacities as nurses in WWII. I met a 93 year old lady last vets day who was a nurse in the Navy, and was on Iwo Jima.

Marines adapt and overcome all obstacles. I have faith that the Marine Corps will be fine.

People need to wake up, women have been in combat for a long time. 88M on ground, 31B overseas. There are not "Front lines" anymore. You could go over and not even do your MOS. I don't understand how this is such a shock all of the sudden... I've been deployed 3x and worked next to infantry, engineers and special forces. I don't see how this is such a big deal.

SP6 Heather Chaney, It's not a big deal anymore, regardless of what the males think. It's been here, and will continue to stay here. I don't know what it's like serving in the field with a female, but I would think they pull their share, or more.

I can tell you I've had my trials and tribulations but I love the military.
