Question is why did I not get mine when I discharged? They handed me some ribbons and said bye bye.

Get your what?
If you are an old-timer and served less than 6 years or a more recently discharged vet - 8 years, then you did not get your DD-214 until your obligation period was completed. Then if you did not get a copy sent to you or did not receive it, they did not have your address at the time on file or you had moved from the address in your discharge record.

I got my DD214 along with my ribbons that is my only documentation i have for my ribbons. Why do they not give the right away, that is bovine scatology as Norman has said. Good thing I got out when I did. Not sure how anything gets done nowdays.
