Hurd ramps up call for cyber national guard -- FCW

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint There is supposedly a big cyber security think tank (for lack of a better phrase) being established in Colorado Springs. Cyber security is going to be a field that will grow exponentially moving forward. With society moving everything to a digital world, the need to protect that digital world is becoming greater. The big problem is that an individual with the requisite skill set can earn a much better living working in the private sector than they can in the public sector. It is a catch 22. The government U.S. has deep debt that needs to be addressed. The only way to implement this is to spend money. Money we really shouldn't be spending on anything. It is much harder to appeal to patriotism and service to the nation following a cyber attack than it is following a physical attack. Whether it be a cyber national guard, a new branch of the military, or by some other means, the time has passed when the need for a dedicated cyber-warfare force should be established.
