This stuff is for TRADOC....bringing it down to platoon level is the mission of small unit co's such as the Plt Ldr and Co Commander.....it's good guidance on how to do it....the basics, move, shoot and communicate will always be with us as long as humans are involved and the opposing forces do not use poison gas, lasers, or some other soon to be discovered weapon that will make the attacker extremely vulnerable and dysfunctional.....infantry is only as good as its ability to move quickly, has been well trained to react and follow orders and has the wherewithal to keep fighting even if the odds are insurmountable.....this is the American Infantry Soldier, well trained, well supplied, having excellent leadership and the willingness to sacrifice his/her life for each other to achieve success....

Was no TRADOC back when this was written in 1941... and briniging it down was really on the BN and CO commanders.. and still is the same these days... interpreting the FM. It was only a few months later that those principles you mention Gary were put to the full measure of the task on Luzon.... but it was not a well equipped, trained, or supplied force that found itself against overwhelming odds even with great leaders amongst its NCOs and officers.....

The sheer luck of a Google search! Discussion had been going towards Dick Winters accounts and a few other good books - when I recalled something on the USMC pre-war from the old Institute for Tactical Education "Tactical Notebook" that lead me to look and see if the old FM was on line....

LTC Eric Udouj - OK, Thank you.
The reason I was asking is that I know that copies are in the libraries that support NCO and Officer leadership courses. I saw a copy at Fort Benning when I was going through ANCOC.

I happen to be a collector of some of the older manuals and other publications. My greatest prize in my collection is the "Privates' Manual" by Major Jas. A. Moss (USA) (c)1916. My copy is a second edition, second printing printed in June 1917. Original price $1.00. This book is similar to our current "The NCO Guide", etc..
