MSgt Michael Bischoff: Most people would be extremely surprised to find out how often young girls are victims of incest from male family members, including step-father/step-brother, whether or not they get pregnant and are in need of an abortion. I used to represent these kids in juvenile court and it was beyond heart wrenching. When those allegations were made, the perp got to directly question the victim because of the 5th Amendment right to confront the accuser. And so many times I watched as their mother refused to believe them. When there was a pregnancy involved, it go so much worse. So mostly, these girls remain silent and get an abortion rather than face the legal system. The psychological damage is for the rest of their lives, even if they receive mental health counseling.
