On the articles in the news I get blown away by half reporting or mis/poor analysis in the news article. There has to be more to this story. But, for them to make it look bad on GEN Mattis is low.

Jim I have an issue with this one: We as a nation will bend over backwards for some jackass who hides in the shadows and breaks every law he/she can. We think they are just mistreated and misunderstood, maybe if we give them better places to live and more money not to mention citizenship all will be okay.
Then we have a person who wants to be an American, Who wants to be part of the solution and not the problem. I have friends who are ICE Agents but in this case I would say they need to pump the breaks. We cant do all the other stuff for law breaking jackasses just try and get someone who wants to do right.

We do also have to wonder about the Counterintelligence angle on this. There are lots of issues, good and bad, I just do not trust we have all the info on this one.

1. How did he go out of CH? Visa, time limit, etc.
2. Does he still have family in CH.... I am willing he came out because he still has family that can be leverage.
3. When was his last time to a Confucius Office in USA?
4. Did he server in the Chinese military? Why not? When will he do that, or how did he get out of his obligation...

I'm with you on wanting to know the whole story here Jim. If it is as it reads, then there's a major failure of logic here. Will be of interest to see how it plays out.

Joshua I am like you I dont know the whole story, unfortunately most of the time we only know what "they" tell us. But as face value that stinks.
Joshua over the years I have no idea how many great Americans I worked with, and for that started their life as a citizen of somewhere else. One of my favorite CDRs was a Cuban immigrant, worked his ass off became a citizen, joined the Army, then Special Forces. What a great Commander!

It's a tough one because anyone who's served, particularly if they've worked with LNs, knows there are some truly great and deserving folks out there who would (and have) laid it all on the line for the same nation I got to be a citizen of simply by drawing breath. On the other hand, a porous border and politically-motivated leniency is a real threat. Somewhere, there's got to be application of common sense...but I sure can't see it.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint this is JUST WRONG! this guy who wanted to become a US citizen comes here the RIGHT way, only to find out the program was shelved (temporarily) so he's told about a University, which in the long run, turned out to be a FAKE school...but was actually a TRAP...which in itself, is WRONG...this poor guy is in a catch 22 and it's it is just WRONG! He should be given the chance to get this mess straightened out...he's not like the hundreds of thousands of Mexicans/South Americans flocking across the border illegally and have no intensions to do things legal...He should NOT be put into the same category.
