If the VA is privatized our veterans will suffer from improved care, shorter wait times, and dramatically lower sickness and death caused by the VA. Imagine the suffering these outcomes will cause with our poor veterans. If only the VA had hundreds of millions of dollars more to throw at their system then then it would truly be a socialist paradise. The VA is the poster child of everything that is wrong with government run health care and some people actually want to hold onto it? Blows my mind!!!

That's the argument that those in favor of privatization always use, but I'm just not sure. I fall back to my civilian life and the experiences of the people at our company who took the low tier/cost coverage (you don't honestly think the VA would go with a top tier program). They certainly did not experience any improved care when they had to change to doctors in the new plan, shorter wait times or lower sickness rates; yes no death rate increases, but we're talking apples and oranges here. I agree the VA is a horrible bureaucracy that sorely needs fixing, but that doesn't mean you have to privatize VA medical care. I've posted before that the government has a fantastic medical model to use for the VA, the military medical system. Hopefully the new VA chief, who has little management experience, will fall back to his military medical background and shove it down the throats of those incompetent VA bureaucrats.

Sir, when you compare it to lower rung policies like that I agree with you. But we are paying for steak with the VA and getting a McDonald’s substitute. Give every veteran a tricare policy and let them find a participating provider. Or even try it in select markets with the VA as the overflow. My biggest point is you can’t just throw more money at a broke system. 1 year after the Phoenix disaster and a couple of hundred million dollars in extra funding and the wait times were longer. Working? We need to drastically better for our veterans.
