On March 25, 1882, the first pancake making demonstration occurred at a New York City department store. Seven years later, Aunt Jemima, now a major pancake and syrup manufacturer, released the first pancake mix. The ready-mix food was the first of its kind. However, the history of pancakes, also known affectionately as flapjacks in the New England region of the US, began long ago.
