I knew him personally. Yani was my friend and an amazing soldier. It pisses me off his death is being used by a writer to pull at political heart strings like this. He deserves so much better than this.

US citizens are held over for that long as well. Its more of a flaw in undermanned investigates being dragged out. Nothing to do with immigration, though I do probably share your view on "extreme vetting".
Edit- reread story I stand corrected

There should be extreme vetting for everyone especially an immigrant. You never know what their true motives are. History proves that. Out of five there could be just one that has ill intentions against our military. I'll never side with these immigrants and I have no sympathy for them because they have no honor to our country. Even if he became a recent citizen, he should not be allowed to join for at least a year. You never know what their true intentions are. They only think about themselves and in some cases they should be under surveillance all of the time. I think our military needs to get its act together and cut all the PC B.S. Obviously there is a breakdown in leadership. I wouldn't wish for him to be dead though. Some pieces are missing from this story.
That is suspicious and might have been a murder. Remember the Barry Winchell case back in 1999 at Fort Campbell. One soldier who might be different could be a target. You never know if you have a whacko in your unit who has a hatred toward somebody. I served with one at Fort Lee. She kept a weapon in her room and tried to kill all the blacks. I turned her in and became hated by a few people including a former immigrant who I actually liked. I guess they preferred having a killer in the barracks. I couldn't believe the CO's lax attitude toward it as if it was nothing.

Maybe not hate, but to be fair it sounds like you have plenty of distrust to go around.
